British Racing Motors

1945 - 1977

Founded by Raymond Mays and Peter Berthon in 1945. Based in Bourne, Lincolnshire, BRM was intended to rival the leading Italian marques that then dominated Grand Prix motor racing. The first project, the impressive Type 15 or V16, was short-lived due to changes in the rules governing Formula One. Alfred Owen of Rubery-Owen took control of BRM in 1954, the team then entering cars under the Owen Racing Organisation name.

BRM went on to win 17 World Championship races between 1959 and 1972 and, with Graham Hill, took both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ World titles in 1962. The Owen Organisation ended its support of BRM in the 1970s and the team was eventually closed in 1977.
