Charles Phillips

1952 - Present

Charles was born in Phoenix, AZ and grew up on his grandparent's farm near Syracuse, KS. He received his first camera at the age of 8. At the age of 19, he moved to California where he studied with Ansel Adams. To raise money for equipment, he worked on oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. He has a photo lab and shop in Caldwell and is now an acclaimed fine art wilderness photographer. At least once a year he heads out to the wilderness areas of Colorado, the Grand Tetons of Wyoming, or Yellow Stone Park. He travels alone, save for a pack mule, for weeks at a time. He uses an 8 X 10 large format bellows view camera. He makes only 250 prints of any one image. He lives in Caldwell, KS.
