1988 - Present

Heun Jung Kim (b. 1988) is a London-Seoul-based fine art portrait photographer. She is an alumni of the Royal College of Art, receiving her Master's of Photography in 2019. Studying architecture for her background degree led Heun to discover photography, but since she started creating photographic art, ‘people‘ have always been the subjects in her cameras. While working on portraits she found the beauty of exploring humanity, and it became her motivation to visualize their sensitivity in her images. She has focused on specific groups of people and genders - mother and daughter during the COVID-19 pandemic, women of colour in society, and lastly, a series on male expressions about depression. She intends to convey the messages about social issues we face today in our community by capturing the psychological experiences and sensitive expressions of her subjects. Recently, she received 3rd place from the 2020 Independent Photographer “people” and has had group exhibitions at the Photo Oxford Festival, 2020, UK; 2021 Special exhibition of the Korea Arts Promotion Agency, Korea; the Art-Zone 42 Gallery, Greece, 2019; the Photo Place Gallery, USA, 2019; the Gallery 1202, USA, 2019, and many more.
