Rafael Barrios

American-Venezuelan artist Rafael Barrios is best known for his large-scale public sculptures fabricated out of painted metal that seem to defy gravity and form. Raised in Venezuela, Barrios studied art in Caracas, Toronto, and New York, and since the 1970s has explored the intersection of art, technology, design, and perception, a style that the artist refers to as Virtualism. In 2012, nine of Barrios’s monumental sculptures were installed along Park Avenue in New York City. The artist currently lives and works in Miami, Florida.
