William Reid Dick

1879 - 1961, Scottish/British

Dick was born in Glasgow. He studied at The Glasgow School of Art until 1907 and then at the City and Guilds School, Kennington. After war service in France and Palestine he settled in London and carried out many portrait busts and monuments, including those to Kitchener in St Paul’s, to George V at Westminster, and to FD Roosevelt in Grosvenor Square. He was a Trustee of the Tate Gallery, 1934–41 and Royal Sculptor for Scotland from 1938 until his death in London. Dick exhibited in the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, Glasgow, 1907; Royal Academy of Arts, London from 1912; Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh from 1912. Elected ARA 1921, RA 1928, HRSA 1939, ARBS 1915.
