Steve Kestrel
1947 - Present
Steve was born in Alamagordo, NM. He attended Eastern New Mexico University and Colorado State University. At 24, he hitchhiked across the western United States, where during his travels he met and spent an evening with Georgia O'Keefe. He also lived in Hawaii and American Samoa. He returned to New Mexico where he built furniture and houses. In 1980 he found a mentor in a famed stone carver, Boris Gilbertson, and began sculpting in earnest in 1982. He carves directly into stone. He is a member of the National Sculpture Society and the Society of Animal Artists. Steve currently resides in Redstone Canyon outside of Ft. Collins, CO.
