Vernon Brejcha

1942 - Present

Vernon Brejcha was born in Ellsworth, KS and grew up on a farm near Holyrood, KS. Much of his art reflects this agricultural background, for example fence posts and water dippers. He received his MS in 1967 from Fort Hays State University and his MFA in 1972 from the University of Wisconsin. He was in the Who's Who in American Art 1978. He was an Associate Professor of Design at Kansas University from 1976-2001. He received the Kansas Governor's Artist Award in 1985. His collections are in: Smithsonian Institute, Kunstmuseum, Dusseldorf, West Germany; Museum of Contemporary Crafts, New York; The Museum of Decorative Arts, Prague; The Los Angeles County Museum of Art; many corporate and private collection in the U.S., Australia, Europe, New Zealand, Japan, South America, Russia and Asia. He lives in Lawrence, KS and received the 2010 Phoenix Award from the Lawrence Arts Commission.
