Vernon Reid Rickman

1929 - 2013

Born and raised in Newton, KS. He graduated from Newton High School in 1947. He attended the Cleveland School of Art for one semester. After serving in the military, he earned a BA (1957) from the University of Kansas studying under Raymond Eastwood. He did graduate studies at Kansas City Art Institute. In the early 1960's he moved to the Washington D.C. area and worked at the Smithsonian as a sculptor and staff artist. He was involved in the creation of many of the exhibits in the Museum of Natural History. Retired from the Smithsonian in the early 1980's and returned to Newton, where he continued creating art until he passed away there in 2013.
