A fine George III Two-Tone Giltwood Set of Seat Furniture of Louis XVI Style

The chairs and sofas were supplied by Chipchase of London in 1783 and are made of carved beech with gilt work and embroidery. There are two hump-backed sofas with upholstered bolsters and twelve upright chairs throughout the room.

The silk embroidery of flower-sprays and ribbon ties on every piece is the work of Charlotte, daughter of John, 3rd Duke of Atholl. It would be fair to assume her sisters and ladies-in-waiting also helped her, given the vast amount of embroidered fabric.
