A Handful of Tears

In her self portraits, Lucy Jones asks us to look again at ideas of femininity, ageing, disability and beauty, and the role of the self portrait itself. Her frank representations of herself are unusual and reveal so much about society’s conventions about appearance and how that impacts our identity. Through her close observation of herself, she is engaging with the viewer to create an understanding of our shared experiences of being human. The artist says: “By looking at myself I’m trying to reflect something about being human”.
