The Spirit of the City

The work entitled The Spirit of the City is part of a larger project called al-Masrkhankiyeh, an attempt to develop an artistic vision for a new city based on Islamic architecture and heritage from a practical and constructive perspective.

The Spirit of the City imagines what the city would look like, what kind of buildings it would include, essentially, what its spirit would be. Through the interplay of light and silk, the observer’s eyes wander through the light and the shadows of a city complete with windows, pillars, streets and arches, but ephemeral and just barely touchable.
