Cervantes says of her practice: “My work is tied to my personal story which I would say I present as a combination somewhere between an opera and stand-up comedy. Like if someone’s going to die, they are going to die laughing. I try to find a balance between caring and not caring, between planning and improvising. And I just keep painting and painting on a work until finally the painting makes me laugh, and that’s how I know it’s finished.”
