Avantika Bawa, Mumbai

ARCHIVED: This window, Scaffolds in Red by Avantika Bawa, is an extension of the artist’s exploration of modularity and the built environment through scaffolds. Here, the artist uses combinations of colour, form, scale and location to respond to the topography and geography of the site, transforming the scaffold beyond its functional purpose into an aesthetic engagement with space.

The lines of these cut out radium vinyl works echo the silhouettes of the building as well as Mumbai’s ever evolving and glowing skyline.

The Show Windows, which is produced as part of the Coventry City of Culture programme, is inspired by L Frank Baum (author of the Oz books) and his publication on the art of shop windows displays.

The Show Windows is co-produced in Partnership by Coventry City of Culture Trust, Coventry Business Improvement District and RIBA and curated by Charlie Levine. The Show Windows is funded by Arts Council England. The Show Windows: Mumabi is co-produced with SqW:Lab and Tarq.
