Refugee Crysis

Badalov has spent his life migrating between Russia, the United States, Europe, Asia Minor, and the Middle East. He fled his native Azerbaijan where he was persecuted for living openly as a gay man and for his radical and critical art practice that targeted the government. Badalov mixes various languages as well as signs and puns. He speaks Talysh, Farsi, Azeri, Russian, Turkish, English, and French, as a result of living clandestine in numerous countries over many years. Badalov gained protection and refugee status in France, however he considers himself a global citizen.
