Bust of William Ewart Gladstone
Sculptor Joseph Edgar Boehm was a good friend of the family, and probably gave this terracotta bust of Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone to the Sambournes as a gift. As a cartoonist for Punch magazine, Sambourne’s work often featured the leading politicians of the day, including Gladstone and this bust may well have come in handy when completing these commissions.
