The motif is from Skanse II during the siege of Dybbøl in 1864. Carl Vilhelm Castenschiold was a second lieutenant in the artillery's war reserve. He took turns with Second Lieutenant Anker to lead the command of Skanse II, and like him received the Knight's Cross.
