Coretta Scott King was the president and chief executive officer of the Martin Luther King, Jr., Center for Nonviolent Social Change, Inc., in Atlanta, Georgia. The King Center is the official “living memorial” dedicated to the legacy, life, and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Before his assassination in 1968, Coretta King worked side by side with her husband. Since that time, she continued in her roles as a human rights leader, administrator, mother, author, lecturer, and newspaper columnist. In 1984, King was elected chair person of the Martin Luther King, Jr., Federal Holiday Commission.
