The conspirators ride from the barn Finderup Lade after the murder of King Erik V Klipping in 1286

The painting depicts Denmark's last regicide. The killers have stopped on a hilltop to watch the burning barn where the atrocity took place. It is not known who the perpetrators were, but marshal Stig was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment and forced to go into exile. The painting is among the first orders made by the Museum of National History.
