Decanter box set

Linley loved good food and drink, and his diary often records that he felt ‘seedy’ or ‘bilious’ the morning after a party. This inlaid rectangular decanter box for liqueurs was kept in the family’s dining room and contains nine bottles with starshaped gilt stoppers contained in individual felt-lined compartments. Each bottle has been carefully labelled by Sambourne to indicate its contents: 'Creme de Noyeau', 'Pere Kermann', 'Old Brandy', 'Kirschwasser', 'Rigakummel', 'Cherry Brandy', 'Curaco', 'Abricotine' and 'Yellow Chartreuse.’ The first letter of each word has been picked out in red ink, which was a distinctive idiosyncrasy of Sambourne’s handwriting....
