Dub Poetry: Jean Binta Breeze

Jean 'Binta' Breeze is an Honorary Creative Writing Fellow at the University of Leicester, and was awarded an M.B.E. in 2012. An internationally renowned poet, she first visited London to take part in the International Book Fair of Radical and Third World Books and is the first woman to write and perform dub poetry as a one woman show.

Working as a lecturer and performance poet, she is known for her mastery of the dub art form and being a powerful performer using patois speech of stories about Kingston Jamaica to inner city London . Her work explores social injustice using personal stories and , historical narratives from a Black woman’s experience about freedom, politics and being between ‘two homes’.
