Fish server (68.67)

A silver fish server made in two parts, and upper and lower, each composed of a handle and blade. The lower section is the longer and broader one. Slightly concave, acorn shape blade, with quatre-petal pierced border edging of the tapered part. The lower part adjacent to the handle features an engraved border of twisted rope surrounding a central laurel wreath of crossed branches. The juncture of the lower part with the handle has a disk flanked by c-scrolls. The tapered, lobbed pitch filled handle is fluted along the edge and has a band at the juncture with the baluster shaped extension connecting it to the blade. The upper blade is shield shaped having the same pierced design edging and is connected to a tapered, slightly curved handle with a rolled end. The upper blade swings on a cantilevered support.

Provenance Narrative Original gift form contains note that it was part of Hubbard and Roosevelt family silver.
