Ford Escort RS1800

In 1975 Ford were about to launch the successor to their popular Escort model. There was no internet and no spoiler alerts, but there were journalists always hoping for an exclusive, so how did Ford keep the Escort a secret?

Simple, they used code names. For the development models the code for the new Escort was ‘Brenda’.

Ford used this format for many well-known models: the Capri MkII was ‘Diana’, the Granada was ‘Eva’ and the next Escort model, the front-wheel-drive MkIII, would be ‘Erika’.

What code name would you give a car?
