Gauntlet

Unknown Artist

The equestrian figure represents King David, one of the legendary Nine Worthies. His symbol, the harp, is emblazoned on his banner. The Nine Worthies comprised heroic figures, three each from Classical Antiquity, the Old Testament, and Medieval Europe, who were seen as paradigms of chivalric behavior.
