George III Canopy Four-Poster Bedstead

This bed is a George III four-poster bedstead in the Hepplewhite style and hung with blue silk damask curtains, valance and hangings. The bed itself has twin fluted mahogany posts carved with a canopied painted cornice, a style of painted decoration popular in the mid-18th century.

A similar bed in the Adam taste was made for Queen Charlotte at Hampton Court. In an early castle inventory, the bed is listed as originating from Castle Mona on the Isle of Man. In 1807 it then moved to the family residence in Portman Square, London before finally arriving at Blair Castle....
