Harbour At Dusk

Robbie O'Keeffe's style has been described as visual music in which he builds layers of space and colour on a small scale. Although inspired by personal insights of places, seen in pier motifs, city and domestic scenes, his works often pull towards poetic notions.

"My work encompasses a brighter, evolved colour palette from earlier years, notably uplifted from my grey phase in 2014-15. The piece embodies an enigmatic beauty in a poetic slumber, supporting the notion of painting being an insular practice and conveying a gravitas that supports prolonged contemplation. It is composed of confident yet gestural brush strokes, and suggests a hint of Edvard Munch’s swaying and leading marks. The painting holds an intersection of Scandinavian and British feel, evoked by the curvature of land and punctuating, musical brushstrokes. The source imagery for the painting is a landscape in southern Ireland."
