It Remains As It Is
The artist says of this work: “'It remains as it is' was inspired by the twelve year civil war in El Salvador (The savior), the smallest country in Central America. As a first generation American and the child of illegal immigrants to the US my work has been extremely inspired by this period, as my mother fled to save her life and that of her family. As my current work is highly influenced by story telling and identity, I have the viewer question what they are seeing and have them piece the story together. I give my characters no faces as they have been stripped of their identities. So many people were killed during this time that it became a way of life and a daily routine. To this day El Salvador has not recovered and still feels the impact of this war and the involvement of the US. Over 75,000 civilians died at the hands of government forces during the civil war in El Salvador (1980-1992)”.
