Mask C
The Mask and Old Mask collages are created by superimposing postcards on photographs of faces. It was inspired by Elias Canetti’s idea on masking/unmasking, which posits that the mask is a cover of absence and a revelation of death. With his usual gift for mapping out the human face, Stezaker positions the card just so that the shape of the scenery can line up with the contours of the people’s faces.
