Lotus (68.22)

Chinese export porcelain warming plate, decorated with polychromal enamel Lotus pattern. The decoration partly consists of fauna such as two central mostly orange pheasants, an orange squirrel above them and a small aubergine rodent. The rest of the decorations are made up of various fanciful and stylized flora such as lotus blossoms, large leaves which are similar to the "tobacco leaf" motif and other foliate designs. These are primarily in blue, green, yellow, orange and gold glazes. The spout is left undecorated, while the handle on the opposite side has a stylized orange flower within a blue line square. In addition, the sides of the plate are painted with a series of four floral sprigs in blue and red.

Provenance Narrative Warming plate made for the Portugese Market in the Ch'ien Lung Period (1750-1796).
