M. B. Brown

Unknown Artist

Although Rosina Emmet is best known for the oil portraits she painted during the 1890s up through the 1930s, this plaque represents her interest in decorative work during the late 1870s and early 1880s. She may have seen portrait plaques on her trip to England in 1876 and completed this example upon her return to New York. In 1878, Emmet exhibited a “plaque, portrait of a girl” at the Society of Decorative Art in New York City.
