Meissen porcelain centrepiece

Meissen is one of the world’s most famous and prestigious porcelain manufacture from Germany. Their cobalt blue ‘Onion Pattern’ porcelain was first created in 1731, but remains popular today. The design was inspired by Chinese porcelain. This large mid-nineteenth century ‘Onion Pattern’ centrepiece is part of a dessert service purchased by the Bank of England for use in formal dining. Although no longer used functionally, the service is still used to decorate the Bank’s formal rooms (known as the Parlours).
