Mirror: Orion and Apollo

Limoges, France

This mirror back, made in Limoges around 1600, depicts the huntsman Orion. According to classical myth, he was shot with an arrow by Apollo while swimming in th sea. Orion had attempted to violate Apollo's sister Diana, who stands in the right foreground.
