Often we can't see

Liam Mertens is a New Zealand artist currently based in London after completing his MA in Painting at the Slade School of Fine Art. Liam’s work is influenced by popular culture, advertising language and colour theory, and he has described his colour-saturated canvases as ‘monumentalised memories of the everyday’.

"I was thinking a lot about growth and obstruction while creating this work. The organic shapes emerge from the edge of the picture plane to obstruct an open gate."
