When 18 Stafford Terrace was originally built, the drawing room on the first floor was split into two separate rooms. But by the time the Sambournes moved in it had been knocked through to create one large room. To disguise the now redundant second door Sambourne positioned a narrow bookcase in front of it. In the 1960s this was replaced with the current mirror by Anne, Countess of Rosse, who had it decorated with floral motifs to reflect those added to the doors throughout the house by Linley.
