Peacock (one of a pair)

Unknown Artist

This peacock and its mate (64.101.480) are among the most spectacular pieces of porcelain sculpture produced at the Chelsea factory. They are notable for their unusually large scale and the ambitiousness of their modelling. Only one other pair of peacocks is known, and it is likely that the challenges of firing these figures discouraged the factory from making numerous examples.
