Plate

Unknown Maker

This is a maiolica ceramic plate, decorated with blue monochrome leaves and geometric shapes.

The plate dates back to the 16th century and it is of particular significance for the Museum’s Collections. During the renovation and transformation of the building into a museum, it was decided to install an elevator for the needs of the Museum and its visitors. The area for the shaft was dug to about 1.5 metres, when various potsherds and flagstones were found. The works were stopped, and the elevator was finally installed elsewhere. An initial study and assessment of the findings concluded that the floor and part of the brickwork found, as well as the potsherds, belonged to the medieval period of Nicosia.
