Dread Broadcasting Corporation

Dread Broadcasting Corporation was the first black Black-owned radio station in Europe and the first UK pirate radio station to broadcast reggae, lovers rock, African, soul and funk. DJ Lepke established the station, later working closely with Mike the Bike and Ranking Miss P.

In 2019 Museum of London staged aTribute to Dread Broadcasting Corporation, including a broadcast dedicated to Rankin Miss P. Zoë Baxter (DJ Lucky Cat), hosted a two hour special on the legendary broadcaster, joined by sound system duo Nzinga Soundz, Donna Halley-Moore (Sista Culcha), and Debbie Golt from Sisters of Reggae and Outerglobe. The conversation is a history lesson for anyone wanting to know more about sound system culture in the UK from a female perspective.
