Saucer (1869.B)

Unknown Artist

Hard-paste porcelain saucer with fluted sides resting on a foot rim. The body is gray-white and decorated with blue and gold enamel along the topmost edge in a scalloped design. Below each scallop there is a blue and gold flower and between each scallop is a gold star. There is a floral spring in the cavetto of the saucer.

Provenance Narrative Donor stated in 1925 that these were used by Lt. Governor Pierre Van Cortlandt during the time of the revolution. Correspondence dated 7/5/79 reveals that the Van Cortlandt Manor is in possession of four identical tea bowls and saucers.
