Silent Noon

John Byam Liston Shaw (1872-1919) was a painter and illustrator best known for his elaborate decorative works inspired by the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Byam Shaw, as he was known, studied at the Royal Academy schools in 1890, during Leighton’s presidency, and later went on to set up his own art school on Campden Street, Notting Hill. This particular work probably takes its subject from a poem of the same name by Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
