Spoon

Naples?, Italy

This bronze spoon is one of the objects known as the Boscoreale treasures, a collection of Roman objects excavated at a villa in Pompeii. The treasure included 109 items of tableware from one of the finest periods in Roman silverware production. It was excavated in 1895 and acquired by Baron Edmond de Rothschild (1845-1934) who later donated all but six pieces to the Louvre in Paris in 1896.
