Sunflower stained glass window

This large stained-glass window was designed by Linley Sambourne who proudly referred to it as all his own work when interviewed by a journalist in 1893. It has been the dominant feature of the drawing room since 1875 but no information about the maker, any prices, or any diary entries from either Linley or Marion that would provide more details have survived. The design of the side and upper panels is similar to work by Walter Crane (1845-1915) or Edward Poynter (1836-1919) but the centre panels are more personal, made up of small squares containing the Sambourne star alongside Marion’s family emblem: the Herapath lion, and a spray of marguerites signifying true love.
