Stained Glass Window from St Salvator’s Chapel
In 1843, the Disruption saw two hundred commissioners leave the Church of Scotland. Lead by Thomas Chalmers, they established the Free Church, which was independent from the State. By 1847 over 730 places of worship had been built and 44,000 children attended Free Church schools. Thomas Chalmers, a graduate and professor of the University, became the first Moderator General of the Free Church of Scotland. His memory was honoured by the University with this window, installed in St Salvator’s Chapel in 1862, 15 years after his death.
