Tissot: Study of Elizabeth Siddall for The Return of Tibullus to Delia
Elizabeth Siddall (1828-82) was Rossetti’s model and muse. He made many drawings of her such as this study for a painting of Delia, muse of the Roman poet Tibullus. Rossetti depicts the moment when Delia, waiting for Tibullus to return, is listening to music with her eyes closed and in her day-dream pulls a strand of hair through her lips.
