The Column from the Temple of Solomon

This depicts the ancient marble column preserved in the Chapel of the Pieta in St. Peter's, Rome. It is a spiral column with the top half covered with a leafy vine ornamentation between a ring of acanthus leaves (at the middle) and another ring of acanthus leaves (at top), capped by an Ionic capital. The bottom half of the column is a fluted spiral. At the base is another row of acanthus leaves. This impression is a first state before the inscription.
