Ariel stained glass panel

This is one of a pair of stained-glass panels fixed to the dining room windows at Sambourne House. Although Linley Sambourne helped design some of the windows in the house, these framed panels were commercially available, with roundels containing heads of Shakespearian characters (or saints if preferred) in the same surround of birds and flowers. Linley wrote somewhat sharply in his diary for 3 May 1903, 'M broke one of the dining room side windows which had been there since 1875.' Marion hastened to make amends by getting a man from Barkers department store on Kensington High Street, to repair the damage....
