I started looking into equality within the army, mainly focusing on women and the LGBTQ+ community as these were the two subjects that mattered most to me. During my research I discovered that I struggled with needing to pick a side, instead deciding on work that would interact with the public and I would then use later to create more work from it. I wanted it to focus more on how the public feel and less on my views as it is important that everyone is able to express themselves freely.

My work isn’t necessarily conveying anything other than me not knowing where I stand on such a complex issue. I have chosen to use grey to show that I am in the middle, and that this is not a black and white subject. I would like the audience to interact with the work, whether it is through words or a small drawing, something to show how they feel. As I think it is important to listen to everyone’s views before deciding on your own. The display of the work would be to emphasis on the need for audience participation.

Doing this project made me realise how important it is to listen to what people have to say and understanding that you will not always agree with someone, even those you are closest too. It has shown me how to be more professional when approaching sensitive subjects and how to deal with the unknown.
