Terracotta antefix (roof tile) with head of a maenad

On temple roofs, maenad antefixes often alternate with satyr-head antefixes. Here, the maenad wears an elaborate diadem and very large grape-cluster earrings, a type of jewelry especially popular in the fifth and fourth centuries B.C.
