'I wanted to paint a fish. I like the faces of flat fish. They look naturally in distress. I wanted to pay homage to the fish who ingested the stone. (I took a lot of artistic liberty because the original fish was a Ling) I wanted the fish to become the stone. I often think of painting like that: A curious alchemistic process where material is alluded to by means of illusionistic trickery while being its own material of ground up coloured stone and oil.' - Daniel Sinsel.
