Glen in Windsor Great Park, near Bishopsgate

At the time this was painted, Windsor Castle, in the distance, was being refurbished at vast expense for George IV. The King’s extravagant expenditure was a matter of public interest; perhaps as a result, images of Windsor were popular – Daniell exhibited seven views of the area at RA Summer Exhibitions from 1827-1830.
