The National Library of Wales is one of the world’s great libraries. Established in 1907 and located in an iconic building in Aberystwyth, the Library houses a priceless collection of books, rare manuscripts, paintings and maps, and plays host to a regular programme of events and exhibitions exploring the heritage and culture of Wales and the Celtic nations.

In order to share its treasures with the world, the Library collects, preserves and protects the nation’s documentary heritage. The papers and archives of prominent Welsh figures, such as David Lloyd George, Dylan Thomas and Sir Kyffin Williams are held at the Library, alongside millions of items portraying the extraordinary lives of ordinary people. Millions of items from our collections have also been transferred into digital formats and made available, free of charge, via the web to people across the globe. This includes online access to Wales’s print heritage, including 1 million pages of Welsh newspapers.

In addition, the Library is home to the Welsh Political Archive and the National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales, which contains films, television programmes, videos, sound recordings and music relating to Wales and the Welsh people.

With its fabulous collections and exhibitions, stunning views of the town and Cardigan Bay, and a guaranteed warm welcome, a visit to the Library is an experience to savour for all the family.
