Coy Avon "C.A." Seward

1884 - 1939

CA Seward was born in Chase, KS. He moved to Wichita in 1908. He attended Washburn University and Bethany College, where he studied with Birger Sandzen. In 1927 he won an award at the International Exhibition of Prints in Florence, Italy. Seward earned his living as one of Wichita's earliest commercial artist. He was manager of the Cappers branch office in Wichita for 10 years. He established Western Lithograph Company in Wichita (1923-1939). He was the founder of the Wichita Artists Guild, Member of the Wichita Art Association and the Kansas Federation of the Arts. He devoted much of his time to helping artists get training and recognition. He played a significant role in founding of the Prairie Printmakers and his principal talent was lithography. His adobe studio can still be seen at a house on North Holyoke in Wichita. He passed away in 1939 in Wichita, KS.
